The Queen of Saigon

Whiskey-SleepHe tells himself he wouldn’t be speeding if he didn’t know the area so well, but that excuse only lasts him until the county line, and he thinks he passed that about ten miles ago.
He ought to slow down. The roads are wet. It’s raining still, and he can see the remnants of the storm flickering over the distant horizon.
The superstition has its claws in an icy grip around his heart. It hurts to breathe.
This life, this one particular life, has been so important for him for so many years that he’s not sure what will happen if it ends.
It’s something like eight-thirty in the morning and he has an appointment booked right this minute, but he’s only now pulling up to the gate and entering the code.
He punches in the gate code with aggression in his fingertips. He hates being late.
The drive up to the stables is slow. He’s careful. He doesn’t rush his walk up the barn aisle to the wash-racks at the other end, where his charge is surely waiting

Build: As far as Georgian Grandes go, Saigon is one of the lighter variety. Seventy-five percent of her blood is American Saddlebred; this is the maxium allotted percentage for Grandes, so Saigon will never be bred to a pure Saddlebred stallion (always drafts or other Grandes). This light blood gives her extremely refined characteristics, and her heavier Gypsy Cob blood gives her more bone and muscle than most Saddlebred stallions could hope for. Her eyes are large and set across a flat forehead; her profile is straight, and her expression is nearly always alert. She has long legs and a deep shoulder, and her long neck and medium-long back lend extra grace to her already impressive movement.
Temperament: Saigon certainly lives up to her name! If she catches some sentient being looking at her, from the birds in the trees to the humans in the barn, she tends to hold eye contact and draw herself up to her full stature. She's a very curious creature, but we think her "staring contests" are moreso due to pride than curiosity. She's very sociable, and will trot happily across even the largest of our pastures to come say hello to someone at the gate -- but at the same time, we've noticed that she tends to get very upset if we decline her a chance to give us permission to do something with her.
